The Legend of the Island: The Story

Lazarus Island’s captivating history is steeped in enigmatic narratives that add to its allure. In the late 19th century, this island housed a series of prison confinement sheds, a testament to a bygone era. However, these structures were eventually abandoned, a decision made in the wake of a daring escape by a prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment on the island.

In the early 20th century, it witnessed two significant events that would leave an indelible mark on its landscape. In 1902, a ferocious wildfire swept through the island, consuming the remaining remnants of the confinement sheds and reshaping its terrain. Then, in 1914, another major fire ignited, further altering the island’s landscape by devouring its lush vegetation.

These historical events have transformed the Island into the hidden gem it is today, with its pristine beaches and unspoiled beauty. Its past, etched in these tales, adds a layer of intrigue to the island’s charm, making it a destination worth exploring and experiencing.

The Island

Fast forward to today, flocks of visitors come over to the island by ferry and yachts to enjoy the clean, white and sandy beach on the C-shaped lagoon. It has also been touted as one of Singapore’s best kept secrets and also one of the forgotten islands.

The island is popular with beachgoers and families that wish to have a peaceful and quiet time together with loved ones.
